Qatar is underway in the creation of its first outdoor air-conditioned commercial plaza. Spread across an area of over 38,000 square meters, the plaza will host to cafes, restaurants, shops, the new Evian Spa, and the revolutionary Children’s Mall. This will be shopping centre dedicated entirely to the shopping and entertainment for children of all ages. One of Doha’s newest attractions is scheduled for its grand opening within the next year.
Mecca’s Grand Mosque redevelopment
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz has initiated five projects as part of the expansion of Mecca’s Grand Mosque. The activities involved include the expansion of the building, squares, tunnels, services buildings as well as a ring road. The main gate will also be expanded, with the intention to increase the pilgrimage site’s capacity to 2.5 million worshippers.
Dubai Metro extension
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that it hopes to instigate construction on the Route 2020 metro expansion project in the second half of this year. The extension will include the Red Line from Nakheel Harbour and Tower station to the Expo2020 venue site.
The new stations will serve the residential areas of Discovery Gardens, the Dubai Investment Park, Furjan, and the Jumeirah Golf Estate. Officials proclaim that metro passengers will be able to travel from Dubai Marina to the Expo2020 site in 16 minutes, which is no small feat.
The Bluewaters Island is a reclaimed land located towards the south-western end of Dubai, just off the Jumeirah Beach Residence coastline. This upcoming development project will include retail, residential, hospitality and entertainment zones within the island.
Bluewaters Island’s main attraction will certainly be the 210 metres Ferris wheel, which is being dubbed the “’Dubai Eye”. Once it is completed, the Dubai Eye will be the world’s tallest Ferris wheel. This attraction is scheduled to open in 2017.
The Kingdom Tower, Jeddah
Look out Burj Khalifa! The newest project in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia looks to surpass it as the world’s tallest building at more than 1km high. The Kingdom Tower is being developed by Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal’s Kingdom Holding Company. It is expected to be completed by 2019.
The Saudi Landbridge Project is a planned railway project which forms a key component of the Saudi Railways Expansion Programme. The railway will connect Jeddah, on the Red Sea coast, with the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh. The project will consist of improvements to an existing 450 km line between Riyadh and Dammam, as well as the addition of 115 km of new lines to connect Dammam with Jubail on the Persian Gulf.
